چکیده

Aquatic green plants can assimilate carbon dioxide in solutions of widely varying hydrogen-ion concentration. Our purpose in investigating the rate of photosynthesis as a function of this factor was to clarify the interpretation of experiments in carbonate mixtures, where the concentrations of carbonate and bicarbonate ions and of free carbon dioxide all vary with the hydrogen-ion concentration. The relationships are shown in figure 1, where the percentage of total carbon dioxide in each of these three forms is plotted against the pH. The range covered by the carbonate mixtures is to the right of pH 8. From here the proportion of bicarbonate, which is at first maximal, declines with increasing pH, and the carbonate, extremely low at first, rises gradually to its maximum somewhere beyond pH 12. At the same time the proportion of free carbon dioxide declines

Effect of short-term salinity on photosynthesis and ion relations in two sugar beet cultivars.

A factorial pot experiment was conducted based on randomized complete blocks design in green house condition to investigate the effect of short-term salt stress on leaf photosynthesis and ion relations of two sugar beet cultivars (Madison and 7233-P29). Plants were exposed to 0, 50, 150, 250, and 350 mM salinity (NaCl and CaCl2 in 5:1 molar ratio) for 48 hours. Measurements were done on younges...

The Effects of Some Inhibitors on the Rates of Photosynthesis and Respiration by Chlorella

The effects of several inhibitors on the rates of photosynthesis and of respiration by Chlorella pyrenoidosa have been studied. The inhibitors used in this study include potassium cyanide, hydroxylamine hydrogen chloride, dinitrophenol, and sodium azide. Each inhibitor seems to have its own characteristic action in photosynthesis and in respiration. With the exception of hydroxylamine, all the i...

Utilization of Exogenous Inorganic Carbon Species in Photosynthesis by Chlorella pyrenoidosa.

The nature of the inorganic carbon utilized during photosynthesis by Chlorella pyrenoidosa was investigated using three experimental techniques (open gas analysis system with "artificial leaf" or "aqueous" chambers and O(2) electrode system) to measure carbon assimilation. Photosynthesis was studied as a function of pH and CO(2) concentration. The CO(2) concentration was inadequate to meet the ...

The potential of crude oil pollutant reduction by green alga Chlorella vulgaris and evaluation of the induced physiological responses

In recent years, one of the most major world concerns is environmental pollutants derived from industrial and social performances. Unfortunately, in oil productive countries such as Iran, the substance is one of the most principle environmental pollutants. In this study, the effect of crude oil on some of physiological responses of unicellular alga Chlorella vulgaris such as the rate of photosy...
